Detroit Pistons waive G Rip Hamilton, reward Stuckey with new contract

The long- time Detroit Pistons G Richard Hamilton was waived by the team on Monday after they bought out the remainder of his contract. Hamilton who was selected in the 1st round, 7th overall in 1999 out of Connecticut by the Washington Wizards, was traded to the Detroit Pistons in 2002. The trade sent G Richard Hamilton, G Hubert Davis, and F Bobby Simmons to the Pistons in return for G/F Jerry Stackhouse, F Brian Cardinal, and C Ratko Varda. In 9 seasons with the Pistons, Hamilton has won 2 championships, averaging 17.7 PPG, 3.1 APG, and 2.3 RPG. After being waived and bought out with the Pistons, Hamilton agreed to join the Chicago Bulls, when he signed a contract worth $10 million over two years. With Hamilton being waived, this makes room for G Rodney Stuckey. Stuckey who was drafted by the Pistons in 2007, signed a free agent contract reportedly worth $25 million over three years. Stuckey became the starter for the Pistons in 2008, where he averaged 13.6 PPG, 4.5 APG, and 3.2 RPG.
